Video games are not only popular with children, but also with adults. Especially during the COVID-19 pandemic, everyone in the household, young and old, has turned deeply towards mobiles and video games. Video games are a favorite form of leisure entertainment in most homes, both young and old. In 2020, Norton Life Lock conducted a survey of 1,572 adults in different cities in India. The results of this survey revealed a surprising result. The survey found that the behavior of an adult and a child in mobile video games is almost the same. The survey found that 59 parents and children spent equal time playing mobile video games. Another 24 people reported spending more time playing mobile video games than their children. Ritesh Chopra, Director, Norton Life Lock, India therefore said that 'It is interesting to note that children follow the same pattern as their parents when it comes to online gaming.

Something about the relationship between video games and children:

According to Dr. Avinash D'Souza in his book 'Parenting in Digital Age'-

(a) 80-95 per cent of children and adolescents aged 2 to 15 years play video games,

( b) Children spend 30 minutes to 6 hours playing video games,

(c) More children enjoy playing video games alone and quietly than on TV,

(d) Boys spend more time playing video games than girls,

(e) Nine out of 10 of the best-selling video games are murder, violence games, war games, etc.

Dr. Abinash D'Souza This information is worth paying attention to and taking seriously. Video games have some benefits but they have more negative effects on the minds of children or adolescents. Violent video games in particular put a deep strain on the psyche of children and adolescents and their outlook. The digital market for video games includes educational games or many other non-violent entertaining knowledge-stimulating games. However, in reality, video games with murder, violence, warfare, etc. are more popular among children, adolescents and adults than these games.

These violent games commonly portray images of

(a) killing people or animals,

(b) breaking the law or behaving like criminals,

(c) sexual or female violence,

(d) obscene language and behavior,

( e) Use of deadly weapons,

(f) destructive or violent plans, etc.

Violent video games and excessive time spent in video games, especially among children and adolescents, lead to the following problems:

(a) Expression of violence in speech and behavior.

(b) They become interested in doing the activities they see in video games themselves.

(c) It hinders normal and healthy mental development.

(d) Physical damage occurs.

(e) Sleep is irregular.

(f) Psychology is adversely affected.

(g) Withdraws from academic activities.

(h) They like to be absorbed in games away from family and society.

There are many crimes, murders and violence committed in different parts of the world inspired by video games. It is time to protect children from the harmful effects of video games. If your child wants to play video games, parents should set specific rules about what games to play, how long to play, where to play, etc. If necessary, parents should also play video games and have fun with their children, but all within certain limits. If you leave your children with video games uncontrollably, they are sure to go astray.
