CUET exam 

The CUET (Common University Entrance Test) is the entrance test to be launched by the UGC from 2022 on the basis of the new education policy for admission to undergraduate and graduate courses in various central, state and private sector universities in the country CUET has two exams: CUET (Undergraduate) and CUET (PG). The main objective of this entrance examination is to maintain an equal standard of enrollment across the country. The examination is conducted by the NTA (National Testing Agency), an independent body under the Ministry of Education, India. Our North Eastern universities were exempted from participating in CUET on the basis of a directive of the Ministry of Education, Government of India but our Assam University and Cotton University participated in CUET.

Although we already have entrance examinations for admission to engineering, medical or other professional courses in India, there was no combined entrance examination for admission to undergraduate and graduate courses in Humanities, Science and Commerce in universities across the country. With the introduction of this CUET examination system, it has become complicated for our North Eastern students to get seats in Delhi University, Allahabad University, Jawaharlal Nehru University, Jamia Millia University, Banaras Hindu University etc. Therefore, knowing the details about CUET will help our students to dispel their unnecessary fears.

What is the pattern and syllabus of CUET exam?  

CUET examination advertisements are usually published in April. The website where detailed information about this exam is available is www.cuet.samarth.ac.in | The CUET exam is a computer based online exam and the questions are MCQ (Multiple choice question) and the subject selection may vary from course to course. The first of the three parts of the course is Language 1A and Language 1B, the second is the Domain specific subject and the third is the General Test. The syllabus of the specific subject includes all the NCERT syllabus of Class XII.

There are a total of 27 subjects in the Domain Specific Subject of the CUET examination. The languages included in Language 1A are Tamil, Telugu, Kannada, Malayalam, Marathi, Gujarati, Oriya, Bengali, Assamese, Punjabi, English, Hindi and Urdu. Candidates can choose from either Language 1A or Language 1B. A candidate can choose a total of ten subjects from all three parts of the course. Those who wish to sit for four subjects for Honours can choose the subject of their choice accordingly. Subject selection rules may vary from university to university and from course to course. Therefore, it is advisable for candidates to check the Honors rules on the website of the university they wish to enroll in. For admission to the University of Delhi, a candidate has to choose one language and three specific subjects in CUET. Minimum qualification in the language paper is compulsory and it is also necessary, if not compulsory, to sit for the general examination paper.

The CUET test is conducted in two or three shots. Notification is published in advance of which shot and what subjects will be examined Our Assamese medium students may prefer the Assamese language newspaper to save time, as they will have time to answer questions on other subjects. According to a recent notification from the UGC, the CUET examination will be conducted in thirteen languages included in Language 1A and candidates can sit in any of the mediums.

Is CUET exam as complicated as NEET or JEE ?

The standard of the CUET examination, which is conducted at the all-India level to determine the merit criteria of students, is somewhat complicated like other entrance examinations. The country's brightest students sit for this examination to get seats in various universities. NCERT Class XII syllabus studying diligently and time management skills are very important. Candidates who have read all the syllabus to prepare for the board examination will also prepare for the CUET examination. The prescribed syllabus for each subject is available on the NTA website. Candidates who have already scored 100 per cent marks in CUET have shared their experiences that along with preparing for the board examination, they used to finish the question papers of the sample examination on time.

In the past, students who scored the highest marks in the Class XII board examinations got seats in the leading universities of the country. The CUET examination has brought hope to students by ending this relative admission process but it will be difficult for students from our marginalized areas to get seats in a university of their choice as many students have scored 100 per cent marks in CUET. Our students can succeed if they prepare a little more intelligently and systematically.
